A unique Tree House Double IPA!

  • Deep in the Hikurangi trench, thousands of meters below the waves, life blooms and is thrust towards the sparkling surface. Here, unencumbered winds from the endless Pacific whip the tides, pulling the churning currents and its creatures into Half Moon Bay’s crystalline oasis. As if cradled in the hands of a colossus, the bounty of the deep is brought to the land’s end and held still long enough to fill one’s boat until it overflows.

Following this thread like a longitudinal arrow—out of the deep, through the tangle of green at the beaches edge, across the chiseled cliffs and over the sugared mountaintops—we find ourselves thousands of miles away in wild Tasmania.

Like a smattering of stones skipped from Australia’s coast and frozen still, humanity is but a satellite endeavor on this untamed landscape. Within its small borders the entirety of our world’s varied landscapes seem to exist, a microcosmic tour of varied juxtaposed biomes.

Within the span of day you can find yourself traversing these varied worlds. There is the Bay of Fires where orange lichens cling to jumbled granite boulders, mirroring back the blazing sun as it peeks from behind the sea. Further inland grassy plains extend across fertile grounds, its soils nurtured by the island’s first peoples. Across this golden expanse, hills swell under the gaze of rocky crags while life bustles under the canopy of the Tarkine, Australia’s largest temperate rain forest.

Both of these islands contain flora and fauna found nowhere else in the world, some oddly familiar and others strikingly singular. It is within these otherworldly landscapes that we have had the honor of gathering its finest hops and, in a transformative exchange between our practices and their unique compounds, we have created some of our favorite beers to date.

At the crack of the can tropical aromas from select Galaxy hops lay a foundation of sun-ripened pineapple and sappy dankness. As this golden elixir is given a proper pour, wafts of Sauvignon Blanc and delicate pear from an addition of Nelson hops swirl atop the frothy head. Intermingling with this classic southern hemisphere profile, Waimea hops offers bright notes of citrus zest while Peacharine hops explode with the candy sweetness of white donut peaches and mellow apricot. The beer you are holding is an ode to the majestic hops of the global south, the farmers that tend their trellises and the unparalleled flavors unlocked from their beatific terroir.
